Session Three (December 5)
“Don’t tell me what to do!” Is there anyone alive who hasn’t said, or at least thought, these words? This week we will be looking at one of the greatest obstacles to putting Scripture in action. We do not want anyone to tell us how to live—even if it is God. This week, 56ers will be challenged to redefine freedom so that they begin to see how sometimes rules that restrict their choices initially, actually set them free in the long run.
Session Three Parent Cue: Has the Bible ever been a catalyst for changing something about yourself? If so, what?

On the Lot Session II
Session Two (November 28, 2010)
Knowing is half the battle. But what is the other half? This week we will be looking at the next step in the process of handling God’s Word because reading it for information is so short of what it can be. Students will be challenged to use the Bible as a mirror to see into their own lives and begin to make changes in the way they live.
Session Two Parent Cue: Have you ever read something in the Bible and then found yourself in a situation where you had a choice to live that out? What did you do?

What We Are Talking About Nov 21 - Dec 5

Here is an overview of what we’re talking about. Listed below the summary is a “parent cue” to help you dialog with your child about the session. The question is intended not just to be asked by you, but to be responded to by BOTH of you. Use this opportunity to find out what God is teaching your child, and allow your child to see what God is teaching you as well.
ON THE LOT:
Series Overview
Many families have a Bible somewhere in the house. As the #1 Bestseller year after year, the Bible has the special distinction of being one of the most commonly owned books. Many people feel like they should have one around, but the question many of us wonder is, “What do we do with it?” Reading it can seem like a daunting task sometimes. We might feel like it is the spiritual homework we never understand or never get around to. Over the next few weeks, we will be talking with your 56er about one way to approach Scripture that will bring freedom and life change. A way that will bring the words they read to life.
Session One (November 21)
Have you ever tried to read the Bible? What are some of the obstacles you faced? Maybe the language was too difficult, or the passages were too long or you just simply couldn’t find the time. This week we will be looking at those very real obstacles and working out a new way of reading the Bible. A way that will break down Scripture into manageable pieces in a way that will let God’s Word act as a light for our path, illuminating each day.
Session One Parent Cue: Do you read the Bible on a regular basis? If not, what keeps you from doing it? If you do read it on a regular basis, are there ever times when it’s harder than others? What do you do when that happens?

GodView: November 14
The tendency for each one of us is to think we have God all figured out. But this week is about one simple truth—we don’t. This week we want 56ers to see how the more they come to know God, the more they will realize they’ll never really know Him completely. There is always more of God to know. He’s that big, that mysterious, that amazing. At the close of this series, we hope your 56er will walk away with the desire to pursue a relationship with God and to know God more every day.
Session Three (Nov 14) Parent Cue: What is mysterious to you about God? Is it comforting or frightening to know there are things about God we don’t have figured out? Why or why not?

GODVIEW Session 2: November 7
Many of us have a distorted Godview because we think God’s primary goal is either for us to be good or for us to be happy. While there may be some truth in those statements, if we see those as His primary goals, then we walk through life with remarkable–and self-made–expectations. Then, when those expectations aren’t met, our faith is shattered and destroyed. This week, we want 56ers to see that following God is bigger than our expectations. Following God requires surrendering control.
Session Two Parent Cue: When you think about the things you pray for or about, or the verses you hang on to, or even the way you perceive God, are those all based on your own personal happiness? How would our prayers and likes look different if we were more concerned about surrendering control?
